Note: Advertising “Gentleman’s Specialities” was another way of saying “we sell condoms”. “Skin” condoms were made of animal “bladder or intestine softened by treatment with sulphur and lye”. Rubber condoms were just what they claimed to be - rubber. One of the main selling points of rubber condoms was that they were reusable and thus supposedly more economical. (History of the Condom - interesting stuff!)
